Friends of Blue Grass:

First of all, let’s set the mood. Go ahead and start listening to this lovely version of a classic Christmas favorite song. Enjoy!

What a year!

So many things about this year caused us to realize what we have taken for granted in previous years, months, weeks, or even days.

In the end, what has remained consistent for us in 2020 is people. Our work family and our customer family have been supportive in ways we cannot fully express. When the derecho damaged our farm, customers gave us the verbal support we all needed to hear. When COVID caused us to transition to entirely paperless sales, our customers were gracious and supportive over the phone. Each step of the way in a difficult year, we found people there to help cheer us on.

As you know, each year we celebrate the end of the season with Educational Seminars for our Homeowner customers. We are sad to announce that this year we will not be hosting educational seminars. Once again, we find ourselves making a hard decision to not do something we enjoy to help keep the people we care for safe. But we are still looking for a way to celebrate.

In that spirit, we have decided to donate the money we would have spent on the appreciation seminars to various organizations providing vital services in our community such as Waypoint, The Salvation Army, HACAP, Mayo Clinic, Marion Cares, +100 Who Care, Iowa Diaper Bank, Willis Dady, & Trees Forever. Our hope is that the kindness that people have shown us this year can be paid forward to others.

If possible, we invite you to join us in donating to fine, local organizations like these to help our neighbors and friends. We are all stronger together.

Finally, as we head into the Christmas season, we’ll leave you with some lyrics from a favorite Christmas song that feels especially significant in 2020:

Through the years we all will be together if the fates allow,

So hang a shining star upon the highest bough,

And have yourself, a merry little Christmas now.

We miss you. Stay safe. We’ll see each other soon.

Merry Christmas.

Your Friends at Blue Grass
